Altered Memories

When Angel agrees to join W&H, part of the package is altering the Fang gangs memories to wipe out what happened with Conner, his very existence even, to let Conner have an ordinary life. What could Wesley, Gunn and Fred believed happened for them to arrive at W&H?

I would belive that the memories would be altered as little as possible, therefore I am assuming certain things did happen.

Fact

1) Wesley did somehow betray Angel and was enstrangled from the gang and had an affair with Lilah. Lineage Thank You courtnificus

Assumptions.

1) Darla did return and get turned to dust.

2) There was a false prophesy, courtesy of Sahjhan, but concerning something else.

3) Holtz and Justine are still trying to extract revenge.

4) Angel still ended up under the ocean.

5) Cordelia was still in control of the Beast and gave birth to Jasmine.

Ok, well instead of trying to save Conner from everyone, they try and save Darla, because she has acquired a soul as a side effect from sleeping with Angel. Darla still doesn't turn up until Season 3 as she is not cursed with a soul and doesn't know at first she has become good and is helping the gang. Wesley reads that Angel will become evil if he sleeps with Darla again, and talks her into leaving with him, Holtz and Justine betray him and dust Darla.

Sahjhan had changed the prophesy to make everyone believe that Angel would become Angelus again to stop the two souled vampires taking up arms against him, as he believes they would kill him together.

Justine and Holtz send Angel to the bottom of the Ocean.

When Corelia comes back from her ascension she sleeps with Angel and Jasmine is the result.

The gang end up working at W&H.

Memories carry on as normal. Anyone else got any ideas what the altered memories would be?

I would love a ficathon on fans ideas about what the changes would be. Maybe taking one character, and one background from the episodes and writing something about it. Maybe fic, maybe meta, or just an hypotheses?

OMG I LOVE YOU. hahaha. I wonder about this all the time. I wouldn't have thought much about it, except they all seem to remember something close to canon in You're Welcome, and all that hinged on Connor, so I always wondered what the hell it was that they remembered. I find your theory to be a really great twist and explanation, and I can totally see it going that way. all the same events happening, just precipitated by Darla instead of Connor. I was just thinking that the only thing I can't quite see is Angel being the one to impregnated Cordy because they didn't act like they'd slept together in You're Welcome, but then I realized they actually both had the real memories, so they wouldn't.

Hmm your points are really interesting. I never thought about the possibility of an altered memory about the prophecy and Wesley's betrayal of Angel, always thought they erased that and Wesley learned about his betrayal only when he got his memories back... but you do have a point here.

Another good intuition but...what about the curse? If Angel and Cordy slept together wouldn't he lose his soul? Or maybe since Jasmine was an Ancient Power she 'covered' the curse to allow her birth?

Well as they knew that Angel had already slept with Darla and not lost his soul, and the prophesy saying he would if he slept with her again, they might think it was only Buffy he lost his soul with.

They would not know about his dream where he lost his soul after sleeping with Cordelia, but even then he called Buffy (I hated that).

Oh it was clear! I understood what you were saying and it makes sense, in fact when Angel is not sure if he can afford being involved with Nina, Wes says to him he has to remember that perfect happiness doesn't come everyday. He had to understand he could be happy 'enough'... or something like that.

So the ipothesis of him sleeping with Cordy without losing his soul because he wasn't perfectly happy makes perfect sense :)

I've actually seen a LJ community (or possibly a website - it was a very long time ago when I came across it) where the challenge was to rewrite all AtS S3-S4 episodes without Connor (and also all of BtVS S1-S4 with Dawn in it), but I can't for the life of me remember what it was called.
