Fangirl, Me?

stargazer60 did a post about her experiences of being a fangirl, and thought I would do one as well..or lack there off!
The first programmes I watched every week, and bought what I could find for was "The Man From Uncle" and "Batman". That was about 1965 or so. "Batman" got me into comics, which I bought and read from the age of 6 to 8, when my father threw them all out as not suitable for a girl. At that time I never bought any others, didn't see the point, and we moved away from the area where the comic shop was.
My father and I watched "Star Trek" every week, and my father would entertain me by role playing the characters and telling stories.
I was late getting into Doctor Who, but started watching it during Jon Pertwee's time, and continued, until I got caught up in RL, friends and meeting guys in my late teens.
After that, when I was at secondary school it was music and hanging out with friends, I hardly watched any TV at all, except Top of the Pops.
The next time I got interested in a programme was Starsky and Hutch, and then The Professionals. After that, I was busy with friends, working and meeting people, then getting married.
When I went to University as a mature student, I liked Quantium Leap, and watched it, discussing it with my friend Jon the next day.
Then of course there was "Star Trek: The Next Generation", which the guy I met and his step-father watched every week, and all the spin-offs. I got bored with it pretty soon, and didn't want to spend that much time in front of the TV.
At this point I never really got into a fandom in anyway. Never really felt the need to write anything, read anything by other fans, and content talking about the programmes with others who watched in RL. Of course this was before the internet.
Then BtVS ended. I had always been more interested in Ats myself, but just has to get more Spike. So I entered messageboards, where I lurked for quite a while. I soon found out that Spike was, at least in the Messageboards I lurked in, not popular. Next step was fanfiction, which I embraced, but felt not need to write. I found a summary to a Spike/Angel story, which I wanted to read, but couldn't see the relationship working. It was AU, and eventually I gave it a try. I loved it, and started seeking out Spike/Angel Slash, going round archives.
I then joined Yahoo Groups and eventually LJ, where I was amazed at how much was on offer. I even started writing myself. I was able to stay away from a lot of fanwank, but some did creep up on me, but I've tried to let it slide.
Then there was Supernatual, which I follow on LJ, but never join any messageboards, and avoid the fanwank there mostly. Doctor Who came back on our screens, so I started watching that, then Torchwood. At present I'm interested in Leverage, but not in a fandom type of way.
I've never been to a convention to meet an actor, I like to keep my fantisies and the real people apart. I have been to a writers convention and met people from LJ, but no actors. This suits me fine.
My fandom activity now is resticted to LJ, and, to a certain extent, my friends on LJ.
Fangirl, I would've said I was, but when I see how worked up some fans get about the shows and characters, I'm not sure I'm all that much of a fangirl to be honest.
Oh well, that is me and fandom. A long, but spatarodic time!
