Tension, What Tension?

I've ventures out to reading Jack/Ianto fic. I'm sure your know I like a bit of romance, a bit of fluffy, an eventual "I love you" would be nice as well. The problem is the fic I am reading there is no Tension! No mystery, it is Jack/Ianto, without well a few things.

Jack, he is omosexual, with his 51st Century ways, not the most faithful of guys.....and could easily lie. Is he ever a two timing b******d who needs to learn the error of his ways in the 21st Century? That even if the cannot die, his promiscous livestyle might have consequences to his partner?

Or even Ianto, finding himself attracted to a man, still wanting to explore his sexuality with others, male and female. There could be tenison there.

Even Jack's history with The Doctor could be used, his attraction to the companions, firting with Martha and Captain John....even a certain envy of John for living a devil may care lifestyle he has turned away from because of The Doctor, but still has a longing for.

There are so many ways some tension could be included.

I read one fic of Ianto getting tired of Jack's flirting with Gwen. Ianto tells Jack he is going to take a vacation. Ianto ends up in LA and meets a certain fair haired vampire. Hot smut hits the sheets. Jack realizes that Ianto isn't around and goes looking for him. More smut. I am trying to find the fic again so I can let you read it. It was pretty good.

Sent you a private message with info on that story. Then I ran across another one you might like. It is by Ramtops_witch called stopwatch revenge. Ianto is a dom with John as a sub with some of Jack to play along.

Fluffy Jianto never works because it is not enough in cannon to justify it. Jack pretty much dominated Ianto and bosses him around on the show, if there is not enough of that around in a fic I just dont enjoy it.

Yes, and all the I Love You's is a little much to take. Many of them move the power dynamic so that Ianto is the one who is (gently mostly) in command....It could work, Jack finding having a Dominate partner a way to relax and let go of his responsibilites for a while, but that is not done.

I stopped reading Jianto fics because every one I read seemed to Mary Sue the relationship and that was not how I saw it at all. I agree if they gently moves it so Ianto could be tops it would be good but mostly it is "I wuv oo so much" and that just doesnt kick it with me. It's a pairing I no longer read because Jiantos just seem to be in a world of their own and I cant bear that in fic.

Agreed, and it could be so much better. I am a sucker for a happy ending as much as the next person, but, especially in a longer fic, there should be something to build up on.

Maybe I'm spoiled by the tensions in the Spangel relationship, as well as the long history as well, but these just seem too sugary sweet!

I dont think you're spoiled with Spangel. I dont know how anyone could watch Torchwood and come up with a schmoopy love story for Jack and Ianto at all. Jack is always bossing him around and when we see them together sexually it's just hot raw passion like with Spangel. I think tension is between them and to avoid that is Mary Sue-ish and I loathe Mary Sue.

You are SO right! I don't read much in the DW/TW fandom and when I read something it's almost always about my OTP (Doctor/Jack) or OT3 (Doctor/Jack/Master) or variation thereof. But sometimes I tried to read some Jack/Ianto and they're always fluffy!!

I'm with you on wanting tension in my fic. It's an appetizer to a meal! I mean I like my fic as filthy as the next fan girl but there has to be some build up, some use of the imagination.

And those are the ones that I never bother with. I figure if you're going to write fic it shouldn't be anything lower than NC-17. I call those people that right silly girly stuff G-fuckers. If it's rated G it's not worth it. For me at least. Everyone is different.

I can get a bit tired of the sex scenes myself. After reading a few they get repeditive for me, and end up scrolling down. I never read het ones either!

Yeah I don't generally get into het myself unless it's a really well written 3some. Other than that I like my sex nasty and guy/guy!!
