Frustration!

Damn, Damn, Damn! I cannot write, at all! All the plot bunnies I get are for Supernatural, but I'm too damn British to write such an American show! I was alright with BtVS and AtS while I was writing Spike and Angel, cos I could pass them off with quite a bit of a British style. Spike, well he was English, and Angel when he was human was from Ireland, so I could write them. But Supernatural, forget it! No way I can pass with such an American show! Apart from drabbles!

So unless I can change the plot bunnies to Janto, I guess that is it. It is a bit difficult trying to change plot bunnies for two brothers into Torchwood, or even Spangel! *Wanders back to drawing board*

Maybe when Torchwood airs again this will change!

You might do better than you think...my beta hasn't killed me yet for trying to write a British show...

I'd offer to beta but I know nothing about Supernatural beyond what the two guys look like...the best I could offer is making sure they sound American...

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/woman_of_/ 2009-02-02 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I tried to write an gen story with a very good beta from America, but just couldn't get the words. It was a crossover with Spike and an OFC young slayer in it. We chatted about it in IM one night, and I have the outline in my hard drive, but nothing came of it!

The problem is my plot bunnies are quite dark, in fact very dark. I don't really to the fluffy cuddly brothers at all. That is too shallow for me, so I'm not really sure I could get anyone interested!

[identity profile] shannon730.livejournal.com 2009-02-02 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I had a lot of trouble writing my first Janto fic...I do want to get the characterization right if I'm going to write it...but it's hard...fortunately I do have a wonderful British beta who will fix things I get wrong.

Mmm...not a fan of dark myself and I don't know how that fandom is, I know very dark is popular in Buffy but in Torchwood...well they claim to have darkfic but frankly I think I"ve seen only 2-3 that are dark by BTVS fandom stanards...they end to just reach mildly angsty and call it dark...Not that I'm complaining...as one of the fluffy fic writers this makes me very happy but...

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/woman_of_/ 2009-02-02 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I find the attitude to incest in Supernatural fandom very unrealistic, and would like to explore the actual effects. Also drastically underage, 10 and 14. I think this might be far to much for many, and something that the fandom as a whole has been avoiding thinking about to enjoy their fuffy incest!

[identity profile] shannon730.livejournal.com 2009-02-02 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
That I'm familiar with...HP has a disturbing amount of Weasley and Malfoy incest...and it's always happy fluffy fic And no, people will likely not want to hear that incest is damaging...I think that would stop me from being involved in that fandom...I can't get into the incest thing. HP had a large enough character-base that you didn't have to read it...SPN though...

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/woman_of_/ 2009-02-02 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I don't get envolved with the fandom too much myself. Not like I did with BtVS and AtS. I do read Sam/Jess or Sam/Sarah, and if I can find a good crossover. Or general, but stay away from the Sam/Dean, except for one author who I knew from Spangel. I can kind of close my mind to the whole who they are for her!

I have started reading AU RPS now, cos I was getting so short of stories to read! I'm still a little uncomfortable with it!

[identity profile] shannon730.livejournal.com 2009-02-02 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I've read a couple TW RPS but it's just...that seems very wrong. Making up stories about fictional people is so different than real people..

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/woman_of_/ 2009-02-02 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I know, it does! I read a couple from authors I knew in BtVS and AtS, all JM/DB. Some freaked me out totally!

[identity profile] jaded-jamie.livejournal.com 2009-02-02 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Why not find an American beta who would work through your ideas with you?

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/woman_of_/ 2009-02-02 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Then Jamie you know how dark my ideas are from that post with the 10 an 14 year olds. Not sure many would be interested in tackling that!

[identity profile] jaded-jamie.livejournal.com 2009-02-02 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Look, if it's *that* dark I have to read this! LOL SO we need to sort something out cos I think your ideas are amazing.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/woman_of_/ 2009-02-02 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe you could be a consultant for it! With expert knowledge!

[identity profile] jaded-jamie.livejournal.com 2009-02-02 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure thing, but I gotta tell you, you had it very accurate in the plot bunny. Thing to also remember is that in 76% of cases, the youngest one not only says it is their fault, they completely believe it because they begin to enjoy it and thus encourage it happening. The older ones takes this as a sign it's not a bad thing and thus it can continue many years without either ever having a problem about it. If ever actually. *shrug* We could do this stuff over email tho.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/woman_of_/ 2009-02-02 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure, will send you an e-mail. Is your livejournal e-mail working or could you send me a private message with you e-mail address?

[identity profile] jaded-jamie.livejournal.com 2009-02-02 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure use my LJ email and if it bounces use the back up one jaded.jamie@gmail.com

Either way is good. We could hook up on MSN sometime and discuss it?

I dont know how many fic readers will want to read the truth though :-/

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/woman_of_/ 2009-02-02 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
My MSN is not working AT ALL! Cannot get back into it!

I know, would have a drastic limited readership, but I don't really write to have a lot of readers and feedback. Sure I enjoy it, but the main aim it to write. That is why a lot of my drabbles and stories are for my friends only now, and don't post to communities as much!

Will be in touch!

Oh Jamie, I just noticed something, and I think you might get the same smile out of this that I did! I think Jared Padalecki and James Marster have the same T-Shirt! Made my day!

[identity profile] jaded-jamie.livejournal.com 2009-02-03 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
I wonder why MSN wont work for you? :-/

Oh! And I wanted to say, did you know Jared and the new Ruby are dating in RL? You probably did actually....

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/woman_of_/ 2009-02-03 08:14 am (UTC)(link)
I'ld heard about Jared and Genieve a little while ago! Does like his girls quite tiny!

[identity profile] jaded-jamie.livejournal.com 2009-02-03 08:20 am (UTC)(link)
I cant fault him, my wife is 5 2 hehehe

But any girl is tiny compared to him though....

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/woman_of_/ 2009-02-03 08:23 am (UTC)(link)
Well Michael was 6'4" and I am 5'4", so maybe I shouldn't say anything either!

[identity profile] jaded-jamie.livejournal.com 2009-02-03 08:24 am (UTC)(link)
hehehe you like 'em tall yourself then... No wonder Jared gives you a tingle ;)

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/woman_of_/ 2009-02-03 08:30 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, Jared does remind me of Michael in a few ways. That is why I am so protective of Jared. Michael was strong, but very thin. Despite being 6'4" is was only 10stone. It was part of his condition. Just couldn't put on weight. Though he was also very strong as well, being a fireman!

[identity profile] tx-cronopio.livejournal.com 2009-02-02 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think you'd do fine with an American beta. Alas, not me, I've never watched the show.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/woman_of_/ 2009-02-02 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Worth thinking about. If anyone would take the idea on, it is very dark!

Then maybe my crossover Sam/Lindsey might get some interest.......

[identity profile] bogwitch.livejournal.com 2009-02-02 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I know the problem. Actually it's not their voices I struggle with, so much as the world around them. I could see Sunnydale on the screen if I wanted to replicate it, but generic American town is much more difficult.

I'm still trying to figure out why motels would have free ice.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/woman_of_/ 2009-02-02 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm kind of ok with small town America, though amazed at how big those motel rooms are myself. Really is the voices, and I don't think throwing in a Man or a Dude is enough to really be Sam and Dean!

[identity profile] bogwitch.livejournal.com 2009-02-02 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm genetically unable to use the word 'du-'. See? I just can't do it.

[identity profile] kudagirl.livejournal.com 2009-02-02 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I understand the worry about getting the voice of a character. I just read a fic where each sentence Spike uttered had "bloody" in it. The author went way over board with the British slang. It got tiresome. I get tickled by some of the writers use words or terms that I have to look up because I've never even hear of the word. One wrote about Lindsey's truck and called it a flat bed. Lindsey truck is a normal pickup while a flat bed is totally different here in America. I just read a fic written by an Australian who used the word "Doona". I had to google it to figure out what she was talking about. It was a duvet or comforter. So she wrote that Buffy and Spike were sleeping under a doona. Having a beta who knows slang terms for American and British terms would have caught that and suggested the word to be changed to fit the character.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/woman_of_/ 2009-02-02 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, it is amazing how the language has changed over time from the contries who use them. We all have our own slang. Sounds easy to write in another voice in a different contry when it all originates from English, but it isn't!

What got me for a while with some people writing Spike was all the dropped characters. It totally threw me out, I kept having to go back an look at it thinking "What word is that they are trying to use".

Oh you might get a kick out of this as well as I did. I think Jared Padalecki and James Masters have the same T-Shirt. If I can get permission to copy the Jared one I will post them and see what others think!

Not much difference, just plop in a bunch of 'dude's and 'man's, and you're golden ;)

Always a beta around ready to brit pick(or whatever the reverse is called).

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/woman_of_/ 2009-02-02 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh how I wish it was that easy! *sigh*, what with the spelling and general accent! I find it impossible to do Lindsey, at all. Of course I had a Lindsey plot bunny with Sam. Not only is Christian too American, he is too Texan! *throws hands up in air at plot bunnies*

I hope so, but think I would be hard work!

[identity profile] rivertempest.livejournal.com 2009-02-03 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you know, `cause I'm stuck watching BBC America (lame rip-off of the real thing), when Torchwood will be airing again? Season 3 or just a 5 episode lull? I have both seasons on DVD and I'm madly craving more...

*sigh*

I miss BBC1, BBC2, Channel 4 *sobs*

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/woman_of_/ 2009-02-03 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Last I heard it would be Spring they will air all five episodes this year, over five days. It is moving to BBC1 to might get higher viewing figures!
