I suspect it was the break with First Night then a new artist that didn't help. Everyone else seemed to enjoy the Gunn part of the story, and it didn't gel with me. I will read it again tomorrow, and maybe it will be better.
I don't fell the Spike/Spider relationship works at present. Then it could be that I'm not invested in the original characters like I was with Asylum or Shadow Puppets, it is the original characters I want to know about, and feel these orginal characters take away from them, panels I mean. That might change with the Spike: After the Fall issues, when it is only Spike and Illyria and room for the original characters to develop!
Well there could be a supernatural reason behind the attraction. Or it could in some way be tied up to the relationship between Spike and Illyria I guess.
