Basic Accounts?

lady_windermereLive Journal has announced that they are bringing back basic accounts, but with ads, the two relevant posts are here and here
They have made it clear that they need the revenue generated from ads to keep the site running, so ad free is not an option being offered, and to be fair, I cannot think of one site where, if I don't pay, I don't get ads. What worries me in the proposals they have outlined are 3a and 3b, as I can see it causing problems.
I might not have to be bothered at this journal (yet) as I don't see ads, but if, for whatever reason, I wanted an other journal, it may become an issue.
Just been musing over this today. Sam Wincester at College, where does the money come from? Of course he might've sponsership, and be working to get through his degree. The money certainly doesn't come from either John or Dean. John has spend any money he had long ago on hunting gear, and they are surviving on credit card scams and hustling. Anyone got any other suggestions for Sam paying for his College education?
