Merlin reminds me a bit of smallville, in the sense that it's an old story told with teenagers, only that Merlin is more fun to watch.

Joss can take a bit of time to set things up. I just hope he gets the chance! Me too, there are so many characters that you barely saw a glimpse of each in the pilot. In the second episode you get the first closer look at one and it's already intriguing. Only thing with the show that might become an ongoing problem is that Echo changes her personality each week on one hand but should stay recognizable as well, because she's the lead.
