It could be aweful, but as someone pointed out, depending on the wording could also help us. That LJ cannot do anything about someone stealing our fic, but if we made a complaint, they could take legal action, not us. Still I did like everything the way it was.

The people who could really be effected might be the hostess' of archives. Hope not, as I found it a great resorce when I first started reading fanfic,

*Snuggles* Be in touch soon! Might not make anything for Sue's birthday at this rate....Hell!

It's kind of unsettling but there's been a lot of wild rumours flying for as long as I've been in Yahoo groups and lj so maybe it'll all fizzle out to nothing. It's a waste of time worrying about it really, isn't it? Cuz what will happen will happen!

I hope those who host archives aren't affected. I found it so useful too when I first go into fanfic.

*snuggles back warmly* Me too, hopefully. And it's looking like I won't manage anything for Sue, either! Bugger!

Yes, I am just sitting back and letting it all wash over me, as you said, might come to nothing, so no point getting grey headed about it!

The only way I can see me doing a slave!fic just now is to start with a few drinks. I don't know about anyone else, but my fingers don't work probably after a few drinks. When I write it out, I cannot read it back the next day, and well typing after a drink or two....a far off dream.

Hope you get everything back on track soon!

*Lots of Love, thinking warmly off you*

The world governments are desperate in their attempts to control the media, the internet, and satellite transmissions. I don't see how this could ever happen or be enforces, but I don't doubt that they sure are trying.

How would anyone ever be able to copyright their own work? Even published authors would be threatened.

Yeah it could be really bad, but I am wondering how it would effect people outwith the US...I mean would the fact that lj is based in America mean that we have agreed? If so would we need to sign a new agreement?

Well it's an international organization putting it together, but the US is the one pushing it and the main supporter. However if it passed it would be an international law or agreement and would apply to all countries. Copyright laws are international, not just federal.

At least that's what I got from the link. But I don't profess to be fully versed in it.

Yeah they would have to do that, with the users being all over the world. Still think they would need to have us sign some sort of agreement, couldn't just change it without our say so. Then we would not be able to have blogs, total bummer!

Oh they wouldn't have to get our agreement. If it became an international law, then we'd have no say other than just leaving our journals.

That's the scary part. Even LJ wouldn't have a say so. It would be world governmental agreement just giving them the right.

Although according to some people in the thread who have read it more closely, it seems that it only applies to sound and audio transmission, not fiction or written word. SO that might be the saving point.

Yes, but vidders would be effected then! Some great creative work would not be seen, and Utube etc would surely suffer?
