Summary Buffy finds out some things about The Immortal, and considers her attitudes.
The curator took Buffy round the Immortal’s collection of Slayer relics he had collected over the years. Buffy saw the enchanted sword the Chinese slayer had used before Spike had killed her, they also had the knife the Mayor had given Faith. Buffy shook her head as the curator tried to impress her with his knowledge of these items, forgetting her intimate first hand accounts.
The Immortal had instructed her that she could take any item she fancied, but she noted that a few cabinets were empty, items he probably didn’t want her to have. As she looked at the sword, she saw a secretive smile on the curators face, and supposed that this was not the original, merely Anton showing off that he had the item, but had put it away for safe keeping as well.
Looking round Buffy found she had no interest in any of the objects, and was convinced that the originals were put away from her sight.
A delivery man arrived with a package for the curator that he quickly signed for, and opened.
“At last, as I was expecting. The amulet from the Wolfram & Hart building destroyed when the foolish Angelus took on the Senior Partners. His Highness will be pleased to receive this.” The curator made to move away, as Buffy stood in front of him.
“What do you know about the events in L.A.?” Buffy demanded.
“Only that his Highness’ old enemies Angelus and William the Bloody stood against the Senior Partners. We are no longer concerned about the events; everything has been taken care of.” The curator replied unconcerned.
“William the Bloody? He was there?” Buffy continued to question.
“Yes some scheme to undermine Angelus. Someone called Lindsey brought him back first as a ghost then as a “Champion”, that either of them could ever claim such a title.” The curator was becoming irritated, and tried to move past Buffy.
Buffy felt her legs go, but used her strength to knock the curator unconscious to the floor. She took the amulet, then the knife which she knew to be the only item in the building which was original.
In the following days, having taken Dawn to England with her, she made Giles research the relationship between The Immortal, Angelus and Spike. As she found out that the Immortal had Angel and Spike chained while he spend the night in the bed with both Darla and Drusilla she was sure she had been played. Forcing Andrew to tell her what information he knew, she grew angry. The Immortal knew that both Angel and Spike were in Italy, and had occupied her while hindering them in their quest.
She also knew that she should’ve had more trust in Angel, with the realisation came another. If Faith had been in her position, she would never have doubted Angel. Faith, who had so little reason to trust anyone, trusted Angel. Buffy with the friends and family, who gave her love, loyalty and support trusted no-one, always looking, it seemed, for them to fail.
Buffy sent a message to Faith in Cleveland, saying she wanted to join her in the fight. They had always enjoyed slaying together, so she didn’t expect Faith to refuse, which she didn’t, but Buffy now was sure she wanted more, a friendship, and to learn not to make harsh judgements on people as she was often guilty of.
The plane landed in Cleveland, Buffy clutching a box which she had not let out her sight since she arrived. It was full of magic so that the authorities would not know what it contained. Looking round anxiously, Buffy got ready to depart, looking forward to seeing her fellow slayer again after so long, and maybe building a few bridges.
As Buffy left the arrivals gate, she was swept up in strong arms.
“Good to have you here ‘B’, and looking well” Faith said.
With a smile, Buffy pulled Faith into her. “We are going to have such fun together; I need to let off steam.”
“You know I am the one to do that with, right.” Faith smiled.
“Got something for you” Buffy replied, handing over the box.
Faith looked at Buffy in surprise, taking the box. Inside was a hunting knife, with a smile, Faith concealed it in her jacket. “Never have too many of these, its beautiful B.”
