Another fandom looks like it is getting to that awkward, teenage years. from it youthful beginning, where everyone in the fandom was equal, no-one had more sway in their opinion than anyone else. Now a few have been seen to arise and lead the fandom. Ok if you agree with these leaders, not so good if you dont.

I am not so keen on the idea of a select group "Dictating" what is acceptable for the fandom, it limits creativity and limits the fandom. I accept we all have opinions, likes and dislikes. Which is fantastic, and should be encouraged. Maybe we don't get enough fic, manips whatever for our taste, have to store what we find in a safe place for our pleasure, but that is ok. Someone else maybe loving what someone else hates. One mans meat is another mans poision. Yes if you leave comments, or feedback you have a better chance that the author will listen and maybe write something you would enjoy. Again personal choice about leaving feedback, and how much to say about yourself.

Just to say vivi l'difference

Amen to that. People like what they like and no one has the right to judge them for it, a community is better when its members are different and have different tastes.

Anyway if you don't like something you can just avoid it and be done with it. Simple as it is :)

*hugs*

Too true, that is why we have warnings, got a squirk, read the warnings. I am not keen on certain things and avoid them, but I know people who love them.

*hugs*, it is what makes people so interesting, that we are not all the same.

I was bothered by that person assuming the people in question were actually dictating. They're just writing great fic, and it's not their problem if others follow and copy. It was an odd post, sometimes smart and sometimes silly. She's very young, I gather.

I'll second that. Differences are good, not evil. Choice is what it's all about.

Well it is a fandom I only scratch the surface of, because it is so active and I cannot keep up. But I love that the fandom has such diversity, would hate it to get condensed.

Bravo! Very well said. Each to their own and bollocks to those that think they can dictate.

Yes some maybe more popular than others, but the think is to be happy yourself. Difference is what makes us interesting.

*grins* Be kinda boring if we all thought the same; sometimes dics that surprise you an throw you off guard are the most appealing. *hugs* What's the saying i keep seeing around...'different strokes for different folks?'

Yes being thrown a curve ball every so often is good for us, keeps us active and learning.

Amen and sing it! There are lots in fics in all fandoms that I don't like for whatever reason. But it's great that they are there because there are plenty that do love them. To insinuate that certain stories shouldn't be written is crazy talk.

Too true. We all have our own little favourites, and that should be encouraged.

I guess I missed the kerfuffle. What fandom is it you're discussing?

I wonder, though, exactly how does one rule a fandom? Seems . . . odd.

Not sure, guess just sometimes someone has more of a say than others. *shurgs* unsure how that works myself.

Out of sheer curiosity, what fandom has no been kerfuffled?

Too true, the fandom should enbrace everyone, from Dark to fluffy.

It was the SPN one.

Ahh, I figured is was SPN.
It's already such a limited fandom with just two main characters how can they or why do they want to limit it even more?

Exactly, it needs opening up, the doors should be wide open to new ideas, not kept narrowed down.

I had thought BTVS/ATS was slowly starting to get past that, where the rest of us were pointing fingers and mocking Ducks the "Buffy is Angel's wun twoo wuv!" people who kick people out of their Bangel forums if they find out they support any other 'ships, even if they also support Bangel and breathe not a word of other 'ships on the Bangel board....

So, are you speaking of the BTVS/ATS fandom or another one? *bites fingernails as she awaits a response*

It was the Supernatual Fandom that the whole thing was about this time, but yes, some people have the whole "this is my ship, and I will not diverge from it". Guess it happens in all fandoms

I'm guessing the fandom is Supernatural. Seems to be a lot of people going to that fandom. And the one thing about fandom that hopefully they will learn or realize is that it is diverse. I guess that's a good word to use. If everyone in the fandom was just like you and liked only the things that you liked, it would turn boring. Quickly. There would be no challenges. There would be no 'finding new pairings'. It really is about having an open mind. Different opinions is what makes a fandom. Just my thoughts.

Yes it was Supernatual. And dirvesitivity it the spice of life, I think one of the reasons that Buffy and Angel are still alive is because of that very difference, and pairings. Keeps the imagination going.

Ahh, SPN love. *snicker*

The poor girl just stuck her foot in her mouth. (Been there, done that.) I really hate how people loooove to take something like that and make it a freaking blood bath. I was so happy I didn't see any of my flist in there.

I'm all for viva la difference! I can't stand people who try to dictate to everyone what the kewl people are doing. *blech*

Exactly what I was trying to day, we all have our opinions and that is what keeps a fandom alive. I am worried that SPN, already limited to just two characters, will die if limited any more.

Keep the imagination alive!
