Written for the [livejournal.com profile] summer_of_ats, where reviews and anything to do with the AtS programme are welcomed. Just started, so only "City of" allowed at present.

This is a 269 word drabble I did for them.

Doyle stood outside the old office block. He knew this was were he would find him. The champion, a vampire with a soul, fighting the good fight. Maybe if he could convince him that a half Braken demon was his way to redemption, they could make a team.

The Powers That Be had directed him here. That Angel needed help. Since the visions started, and Doyle could feel the pain and see the suffering of the people who needed help, he knew he had to do something. The only thing was, he wasn’t strong enough to do it, he wasn’t a fighter. Doyle needed a partner, someone who was strong enough to fight for the people the visions told him about.

He knew all about Angel’s past. Was sure he knew where he was now. Angel was lost and alone in the big, impersonal city. Saving lives. How long before he slips, without companionship, how long before he lost himself. Angel was still a vampire, still craved blood. If he saw humans as only something that he saved from the creatures that walk in the night, would he begin to see them as prey again. To satisfy his hunger. Would they become less human, with all the fears, uncertainty and abilities, would he start to wonder if some were worth saving. Become judge and executioner?

He just needed Angel to give him a chance. Let him have his say. After all did he not have the gift of the Barney to charm even a souled vampire.

With a determined step, Doyle moved towards the door. Time to find out.

Hope you enjoy!

Amazing look at Doyle's motivations on enlisting Angel's help! Doyle's a true hero and a real friend. Angel would've been so lost without him. It's so sad that he died. *sniffs*

Nods, Doyle will always be one of my favourites. He was such a great character, and so well played. Tragic.

Ooh, love Doyle's motivation here, and your insight into what he feared in Angel.

Your missing scenes are always great!

:-) xx

Thank you very much for this "prequel" to AtS. It's like having a new insight. And, strangely, it was very moving; Doyle was a wonderful character, and what happened was so stupid and so tragic.

I adored Doyle, he was such a fantastic character. But Doyle and Glenn Quinn are tragic. It breaks my heart.

Glad you liked it, means so much
