I grew up with Dr Who, in the 60's and 70's. He was Asexual, with no romantic overtones. So the new breed with all the companions in love with him does kind of leave me cold. I like Donna, cos that is not there, I didn't like River, and I hated Rose with a passion. While I did like Martha, I would've preferred The Doctor to be back to his old self, and above all that. Not pining after Rose!

So I really do not ship The Doctor. I would ship Jack, but not with The Doctor. I know he has to be up-dated to appeal to a new generation of viewer, and maybe they do want romance, but old Dr Who fan here, and, for me, he is Asexual. No matter who they get to portray him.

Same with Owen, he is too selfish to be in a relationship! Or now he is with Tosh forever. *sigh*

I agree with you, I didnt like Rose either and fell the same way as you about Martha and the pining was pathetic. Bad news, Martha is coming back into the show and Donna leaves at the end of this season WITH Rose coming in for 3 episodes.

I can tell I will not like the episodes with Rose, I just know it! *sigh*. Totally Asexual, cos he has to be objective, and romance gets in the way!

Well I'm what you'd call a new viewer (really new since I watched the first three series together in like a month and am now watching the fourth... and never watched even one scene of the Classic) therefore I only know Nine and Ten and what Russel made of the show. That said I'm not too fond of this new supposed romantic interest they gave to the Doctor (River I mean) nor I like the chance that she's his wife.

But... I don't mind him *not* being asexual. Of course you know me perfectly so you know I could only be happy if I saw him with Jack (or the Master...) but I didn't hate Rose and I quite liked Martha. She was a dreamy eyed schoolgirl but who wouldn't be with a man like that? Let's face it he's fascinating. And in the end Martha redeemed herself and walked away.

All this said though... I *love* the interaction the Doc has with Donna. She is the best companion ever for him *nods*

Well, the Classic, the Doctor was above all that, romantic, stuff. He had to keep objective, which this Doctor isn't, and didn't allow himself to be tied down. He cared deeply for the human race, or the underdog, but didn't get romantic. Russel has totally ruined it, for his own lovesick reasons, and it is clouding The Doctor's judgement in my opinion.

However, I doubt we'll be seeing her again.

It would depend how long DT lasts as The Doctor I supose, and she would have to come back fairly quickly. She is not a companion, as The Doctor seems to just visit her. So cannot see her in future episodes at all to be honest. Think it will all be off camera!

I think so too. It's a case of one day in the far distant future the Doctor will meet this woman, fall in love with her and tell her his real name.

Blimey! Now I think of it, Moffatt's made it pretty much impossible for any other relationship to ever top it, which must be making the Doctor/Rose 'shippers absolutely furious.

And it's already been established that there's nothing scarier than a disappointed 'shipper.

I didn't particularly see The Dcotor as asexual but his sexuality (or lack of) was never a big thing for me. In my opinion, there's always been love between The Doctor and his companions, just not romantic love.

Yes, he has always cared for his companions, and in a paternal way, loved them. Of course that was before political correctness I guess. But this play on "romantic" relationships is starting to annoy me, and takes him a way from the Dr Who I know.

I understand the writer's probably wanted to update him and they gave him a sexuality as a way to do that, but it does annoy me that it seems to be referred to in every single episode. Dr Who isn't a romantic drama, but it sometimes feels like it's becoming that way.

Donna is just what the show needed. Get rid of the emo romance stuff! As much as I did like Rose, it upsets me that she seems to be coming back so soon. I think the Doctor is pretty good at closing down his emotions so I think he's best left in that unemotional state for a while so he can travel around the galaxy having a great time with his new best friend!

Yes, the romantic stuff is just getting in the way. The Doctor has to make the tough decisions, not clouded by emotion, but because he cares. So it is not my Doctor anymore with all the romantic, everyone in love, stuff!

You know what really annoys me? The way that Tennant is reckoned to be Doctor number 10.

Either the film versions shouldn't count (which is what I believe, cos if he hasn't been on the telly then he isn't the Doctor) which makes him Nine or, if the film versions do count, he should be Eleven. Just cos children weren't old enough to have seen the original films doesn't mean they have the right to fuck up the numbering of regenerations. So there!

I get annoyed with the high-handled way they are changing The Doctor. I know they have to up-date him to appeal to a new generation of viewer, but it is my childhood they are mucking with. We grew up with The Doctor, and have fond memories of him from way back!
