Summary. Don’t want to give too much away but Angel has a plan and Spike is the centre of it!
Truthful Angel Chapter Seven
Winslow looked up; it had been an unsettling three days. Since they had come back from the fight with the Kil’haw demons, they had not seen much of either Angel or Spike.
“Winnie, what is wrong, ye look fret?” Layla asked concerned.
“The situation with Angel and Spike is worrying me. I think Spike’s mental health may not be up to the challenge imposed by this talent. It has been three days, had he been hurt physically he would have recovered by now.”
“Mental health? Are you saying he is crazy” Layla asked.
“The family were never the strongest mentally. Angel withdrew for a hundred years after he got his soul, while Drusilla Spike’s sire, was quite insane.” Winslow worried the end of a pencil, and frowned.
“So you think what, that our vampire friend has gone loony tunes?” Layla quirked an eyebrow, as she perched on Winslow’s desk.
“I am not sure. It is not a good time for both Angel and Spike to be preoccupied. Ronnie is trying to get a case started for harassment. I got a phone call from an insider at W&H this morning. The sooner we eliminate the threat the better. If only we could find out his HQ.”
“Angel has not left Spikes side since we came back. Delilah said she went down to leave some blood in the fridge for them, and saw him in bed, spooned against Spike.”
“If only he were Spike’s sire, such comfort being offered would make a difference. I overheard him tell Faith that he is feeding Spike his blood. While it is family blood, sire’s blood is the best for a vampire.”
“Maybe too much information. Those books sure do get into the heart of the matter. For most slayers though I would think, stake, beheading and fire is all they need to know about vampires. Glad we have the data, if it helps us with our souled champions,” Layla said, crossing her legs.
The door which led to the sitting room opened, reveling Spike standing there. He held the doorway, looking shaken. “I need to talk to Delilah,” he stated, then turned to a reclining chair and sat down.
Winslow walked in, and looked at the vampire. Spike was always pale, but he did indeed look even paler, his hair sleep tousled and with only pj bottoms on. “I ‘ll get Delilah; she is upstairs. Are you sure I can’t help you with anything,” Winslow asked.
“May need your help later, but right now I need an understanding ear. If I talk to you, you’d research the hell out of everything, and not give me the help I need. Layla would be into the fray as quick a lightening, and try to sort things out with her fists. That’s why I like her so much; she’s like me,” Spike replied softly, with a smile.
“I’ll get Delilah for you.” Winslow walked away; as Layla came in and held Spike’s hand. He still looked frail and not full of his usual buster. That more than anything worried her.
“You will tell me what is wrong soon you Sassenach. Can’t be one man down.” She smiled, ruffling his hair.
“Soon, after I talk to Delilah. She’s the sympathetic one, and always good with a listening ear. I guess I need that just now. I don’t know what to think about what is going on in my head.” Spike replied, squeezing her hand.
Delilah and Winslow walked in, looking at Spike Delilah moved towards Layla. “Right you two, time to leave. Consulting room for troubled vampires open, and we don’t need interested by-standees, no matter how concerned.” Delilah ushered the two friends out.
Winslow shot a glance at Spike and whispered to Delilah, “Tell us what is going on as soon as you can. We will help as much as possible.”
Spike replied, “Thanks but I heard that; vampire you know. My senses haven’t been impaired.”
Delilah sat on the couch; she gave Spike a quizzical look, “Right then, something bad must have happened for you to want a serious talk. What is wrong?” Her voice was soft and concerned.
“Delilah, I think Angel is my sire, but that is not possible. I must be going crazy again. The school basement type; without the help of the First. All me this time!” Spike exclaimed.
“Angel? Your sire? What makes you think that?” Delilah leaned forward, interest in her eyes.
“It‘s in his blood, and not only that I am getting these emotions from him. Emotions such as love, trust, concern. All positive things; he always gave off negative vibes before. It’s very powerful for a vampire to feel these strong emotions in vampire blood especially from a sire, and the worrying thing is my soul is rejoicing in the warmth I feel from him.” Spike sighed, looking directly at Delilah; she could see the confusion in the golden-brown-haired vampire’s stunning blue eyes.
“Have you spoken to Angel about this? Had any rational explanation from him? If you feel this as strongly as you say, he might have the answers.” Delilah gently said.
“What? Tell the poof that I’m going mad? After ten years of mourning he came here to help me with this talent he is so sure of. He must be worried about this, maybe enough that he considers me a danger. I’m weak at present, I can’t fight him. What if he considers me such a peril to others he will fight me? Stake me even? He is not one to discuss his plans, just make them and expect everyone to go along with them. When he tells you that is, and then it is usually too late to do something else.” Spike was getting agitated and had started to ramble.
“Then Spike he would have the rest of the Mavericks to deal with. I think even Faith will be on our side, and she is his strongest ally. He would need to convince us that something is so badly wrong with you, or he would have to get through us.” Delilah reassured
“I know, Luv; I just don’t know what is wrong with my head. I haven’t had a moment to myself. He only leaves my side to get blood, then feeds me his. Maybe I am delirious, I don’t know.” Spike sat defeated in the chair; he had his head in his hands, when a familiar scent reached his nostrils. Angel was coming towards the room.
As Angel entered, Winslow and Layla joined him. They were the curious types and had been listening at the door. Angel made his way over to Spike, looking concerned. “Should you be up Spike? Are you sure you are strong enough?”
Spike stood shakily to his feet, he drew himself up and looked up to Angel. “Look I’m confused, but physically I’m still strong. No need to worry about me.” He sat back down as if his outburst had taken all his strength, but still looked defiantly at Angel.
Angel merely lifted him up as if he weighed nothing and settled him on his knee, running his hands through his hair. “I can tell you’re confused, my boy. It comes through the bloodlink; it is in your saliva. I just don’t fully know what the dilemma is.
“I sense you are my sire, and you have these warm fuzzy feeling for me, and you don’t understand my dilemma? Maybe you could explain that, because I can’t find any explanation,” Spike demanded.
Angel held Spike closer, as the door opened, and Faith entered with the two boys.
“Hi guys, something going on? Are we having a meeting no-one told me about,” she asked looking round the room.
“Faith I think we have a situation, Spike is feeling some sort of link with Angel. It happened when Angel fed Spike some of his blood. Maybe you could quickly tend to the two boys and get back so we can all discuss this and if it has any effect on how we handle Ronnie.”
Winslow moved towards the two boys, lifting Zak up as Delilah put a reassuring hand on Lennie’s shoulder.
“Sure the boys would love some baked beans on toast. That’s a great staple of the UK, gotta get into the culture.” With a frown at Angel and Spike, Faith took the boys to the kitchen.
“While Faith is gone, we should not get too involved in explanations, if this has any affect on how we handle Ronnie, how soon we can do the locator spell with the jacket Faith removed from the lieutenant before she dusted him and we find the head quarters. We have no idea how many will be there and we need all of you to be at full fighting ability before we do it,” Winslow stated.
They had needed an item from one of the main participants to do a full locator spell, the ones Delilah had already tried had not worked. This should pinpoint the location where the jacket had spent the most time. Vampire families often stayed together, so the lieutenant, being the childe of Ronnie would have spent most of his time at his headquarters.
Spike was soothed by Angel’s attentions and looked groggy. This was something Layla watched, a wary look in her eye. “I don’t like how dependant Spike seems. He’s too attached to Angel, that’s not a good sign.”
“It is perfectly alright Layla,” Angel said. “I will have to watch out for Spike, but this will help him to use his mind control better. It will enhance his ability to manipulate others minds if he is in a steady relationship. That can only be aided if it is his sire.”
“That’s as maybe Angel, but it is well documented that Drusilla is Spike’s sire. She is not here. How does that help us?” Winslow questioned.
“Oi! Wanker, who said I wanted to be in a steady relationship with you!” Spike exclaimed trying to get out of Angel’s arms.
“It’s in your saliva when you feed from me, I know the feelings you have been hiding from me.” Angel smiled.
“Oh hold on, you spend a century hiding your feelings because of your catholic upbringing, but I am just supposed to shrug of my sheltered Victorian upbringing. I know a lot of people think the Victorians where the biggest hypocrites out, but I really did follow those values.” Spike was genuinely shocked.
“Yes Spike, but you’re like me. You’re blended with a demon, and have demon wants and desires,” Angel soothed. “Since I blended with my demon after the battle, I ‘ve been able to acknowledge my feelings for you. Maybe if you give yourself time to get accustomed to these feelings you could be happy with me.”
Spike looked up at Angel, then cast his gaze downwards. “I had a crush on you,” he whispered.
“What, little one?” Angel smiled, stroking his back, comfortingly.
“When I was a fledge, while you were training me, I had a crush on you,” Spike repeated.
Angel held Spike closer, and made to rise with Spike in his arms. Winslow moved forward towards Angel. “I would like an explanation as to how Spike senses you are his sire” Winslow demanded.
“I’ve missed something?” Faith re-entered the room.
“It seems that Angel is now Spike’s sire; and I would like to know how that is possible,” Winslow answered her.
Angel sat back, and Spike perked up, but remained in his arms.
“I found a ritual which would take Drusilla’s claim from Spike. His sire-ship would pass to me. It was dangerous, but I did it,” Angel replied.
“We would like to know why you did it then, and what you did,” Winslow enquired.
“I tracked down Drusilla, she was weak and had no support. It was easy for me to convince her to come with me, which she did. I then took her to the family I had found who needed her to drain their excess blood.” Angel continued.
“Yes, you explained that you had found donor’s for Drusilla, but didn’t explain about the ritual.” Delilah softly enquired.
“The ritual entailed me draining Drusilla three times over the course of a week. The family were able to replace Drusilla’s blood. This meant that no-one died because of the ritual. If it had not been for the family I would have to have minions bring two people a night to be drained by Drusilla. Of course I could not allow this,” Angel explained.
“I still do not understand why you embarked on such a dangerous ritual,” Winslow demanded.
Angel was getting irritated, and felt that Winslow was being too demanding. Spike felt these emotions through the blood-link, and tried to sooth him, stroking his cheek, Angel smiled and continued to explain. “It was better for my plans to train Spike, as his sire if anything were to happen to him, as it has, I would be able to feed him my blood and he would recover quicker.”
“I see Angel. Were there any other dangers?” Winslow had never heard of this ritual before, and his enquiring mind wanted more information.
“After the week during which I was draining Drusilla, we both had fits. The family protected and fed us. It also meant I was able to drink human blood, I recovered quickly and so did Drusilla. The Blood-link has passed to myself. Any vampires Drusilla made are now mine.” Angel patiently continued.
“How did draining Drusilla allow you to take her position over? You were able to acquire her childe from her?” Winslow doggedly asked.
“Her blood held the trackers that gave her the position of sire. When I was draining her they passed on to me. It means my blood has the same properties that Drusilla’s would for Spike. I can give him the nourishment that Drusilla could. It is essential with his seducer talent,” Angel replied soothed my Spike’s attentions. Spike had moved on to stroking his back now.
“I see Angel, I would like any research you did on this ritual, and I will follow it up, especially if it has any bearing on Spike’s health. Or your own.” Winslow gave Angel a worried look, the interdependence of the two vampires could be a weakness, and he had to know more. He hoped that Angel was right and this event would lead to them being stronger, but he wanted to be sure.
Angel got up, and Spike stood beside him. Spike still looked a little dazed and he leaned on Angel. “I think Spike and I need to heal. It shouldn’t take any more than a day, and we shall be back to full strength I’m sure. I’ll get you the books to read later Winslow.”
Spike and Angel left the rest of the Mavericks. They hoped Angel was right and Spike would make a full recovery soon, they would all be needed if they tracked down Ronnie’s HQ.
As always feedback would be much appreciated and given a good home.
