Well I promised (threatened) to do this, so here is it My husband and Me, edited version!

Michael and Me!

Well I did say I would do the Michael and me post, and finally here it it

Background!

Ailsa my friend and I considered computer dating. Some of the guys we went out with were seriously not people you wanted to date. Honest.

I went over to Ailsa’s house one evening, and she had the forms. She had already filled hers in, and waited expectantly for me to do the same. I was still hesitant, but she was so convinced that we should do this together she sent mine off and paid for me to join (I did pay her back).

I had lots of really bad dates from guys even worse than the ones I dated. Ailsa sid I should give it one more try, so I did. I had one name on my list. Michael. I phoned him and we arranged to meet. We decided to got to a movie and have a couple of drinks afterwards. We went to see Birdy. I recommend the film btw.

End of Background

Michael and I had our first date. He must’ve had some bad dates as well because he was hiding in a doorway, two steps up. Now he was already 6’4” (I never asked him his height, and he never said, the only reason I know is he only just got into the fire brigade because of his height, and that is there upper limit), so when I first met him he was making himself taller. I’m only 5’4”, but I didn’t comment on his height at all. We enjoyed Birdy a lot, and then went off to have a couple of drinks. Michael drove me home, and came in to have a cup of coffee. No nothing happened. My parents were there (they always waited for me to come home) and we all sat and talked.

Pretty soon I found out he had an operation and an artificial valve in his heart. That was when he told me he had Marfan’s Syndrome, but with the operation we fully expected a normal life span, even if Michael was on medication for the rest of his life.

Michael and I were at college. He was retraining because he had to leave the fire brigade with the medication he was on. It thinned his blood, and they couldn’t risk an injury, while I was helping to look after my uncle, who had a stroke, and my parents where both in their early 70’s. College in Britain is not like college in America. I was getting the qualifications I missed out out at school, O’levels and Highers, because I left my school as soon as I could, and didn’t sit them. I had already been to college to study Secretarial Studies, and had done office work and worked in bars before.

I proposed to Michael, if I had waited for Michael I would still be waiting. It was decided that as soon as one of us started working, we would get engaged. Even if I proposed, he was the one who went all out to get work, going into business with another ex-fireman designing computer games.

On the 12th May, 1987, we got married. It was a very quiet marriage with just few close friends and family with us. Our Honeymoon was also quiet as we would rather spend the money on our house. We went to my sister’s house for the first week, where the area was flooded, luckily Jean and Dick’s house was higher up and missed the floods, but lots of people had sand bags out. The plan was then to got to Michael’s brother’s house, but when we phoned we found out his wife had kicked him out the house. It seems that if she found out that he had gone to our wedding without her, after we had invited her, they were finished. I’m very sorry to say that, while being sympathetic on the phone, we all laughed afterwards!

So we drove back home and decided to just tour the local area. One of the things we did was to climb up Ben Lomond.

I continued at College, to get more highers, while Michael decided to pack in his job after falling out with his partner. He drove to the college to pick me up and tell me, he had an argument with him that afternoon, and walked out, never to go back..

The next year Michael went to college to get an HNC, while I went back to office work. I was working at Coulport, and really enjoying it, with some great workmates, so Michael went on to do an HND. He was in the process of going to University when he died in 1990.

I think that is the main gist

Thank You! You might hear me talk about Michael a bit, Jared reminds me of him. I think that is why I'm so protective of Jared, I have adopted him in my head. I keep thinking he is Michael and I's son!

Ok, need to get a protect Jared club going!

Thank you for sharing your lovely story.

What's Warfan’s Syndrome? When I googled it, I couldn't find much. I got results for Marfan Syndrome. I just ask because my best friend from college died from Marfan's syndrome just a few months after graduation. He was also really tall too.

We met the same way! Probably at much the same time - Jan 85 in our case.

I had not realised that your marriage had been so tracigally short, even though I knew you were widowed - how very sad.
