There are people who will read Sam/Dean AU, so long as they are not brothers. Wincest shouldn't be mentioned. It puts off potential readers, and encourages the ones who will not like it. False expectations, again.

Be careful with your headers.

The whole concept seems pointless to me, but then so do all these J2 AUs. Why just write an original story?

Well one reason could be that you don't have to descrip your characters. Everyone knows what these characters look like if you use established names!

I agree. I've saved that S/D AU to read later, but was put off by the Wincest tag until I read the summary properly.

no no maybe, I didn't understand what you were saying... I thought you were saying people don't want to read fics where Sam and Dean are brothers... and I meant any kind of fics, not necessarily slashy, like they don't tollerate the brotherly love at all.
But I guess I misunderstood. :P

Oh I love fic where they are brothers, not the incest in Wincest puts me off, as I don't see it. I have a love of how close they are as brothers, but not in a sexual way.

No, I just don't see it at all! I love them both, but the whole incest thing is just not for me.

My favourite is J2 AU, which there is a lot of at Big Bang.

IMO, Wincest actually weakens the canon relationship between Sam and Dean. They'd kill or die for one another, but that has nothing to do with sex and everything to do with powerful brotherly love.

I agree, I feel the introduction of any form of incest cheapens the whole relationship of two brothers together fighting against the supernatural. It ruins the family aspect.

I think it always depends on how it's written. Many stories are just succession of porn stuff the plot is left behind somewhere between the third or forth line of the story, unfortunately.

Yes, I think a few people think they are so "darimg", and forget to put in a good story, just writing the smut.

I had a great chat with a good friend who writes Wincest about this. Her point was that two boys, thrown into one another's company in extreme circumstances could, possibly, turn to one another for every kind of support and comfort, including sexual.

My point was that they're not separated from the rest of the world and the availability of sex with other people if that's what they need, and there's never been the slightest hint in canon that either, never mind both, are gay. Quite the contrary.

Totally, no indication in canon at all. It is preverting the brotherly love, which I adore so much. How much they will do for each other, the family bonds, with is distorted if you introduce a sexual relationship.

Also the Wincest is unrealistic. Such a subject needs to be taken seriously, it is a serious subject, and has long term damage to both of them. They "Hee Hee, look how dirty!bad!Wrong", I'm so daring, attitude annoy me. It trivalises a serious subject.

Exactly. I can see my friend's point, and she saw mine, but we agreed to disagree. We're still friends. :)

Incest isn't a laughing matter, to be treated as a 'bit of a kink' that doesn't have psychological repercussions on the individuals and the wider family. Not trivial, and it doesn't make it any less serious if it's same sex and won't result in potentially genetically damaged children.

There are reasons for societal taboos and I make no apology for finding it squicky.

Totally. I know that I can handle vampire "familes", but they are vampires, and cannot be judged by human morals. While Sam and Dean (and in some cases John) are human, and, even if they are slightly disfunctional, they do hold to human morals.

It's nice to see there are more people around who aren't fond of Wincest. I've never been fond of it myself (and have never seen it there between them at all ). Not to mention I agree with Fred from Angel (when describing Connor and Cordy's relationship) - in thinking it's icky *L*. Because of it, I end up not reading a great deal of supernatural fanfic. (I'll admit I do like the Castiel/Dean pairing though *L*).

Very unfortunate, I truly think there could have been so much more told between the three of them. My favorite time period for the show was actually Season one (and I've started rewatching it recently - so funny on a side note - whenever Sam yells 'Dean!' my cat looks to the tv like, wtf? LOL my cats are named Sam and Dean *L*)

There's a picture if you're curious (Sammy on the left, Dean on the right). And no, we found Sammy (oddly he refuses to come unless you call him Sammy *L*) new years eve, hiding under a bush in the snow near a busy road, abandoned - so young I had to help him figure out how to eat the soft food we had for him.

We got Dean from the vet a while later - they were having trouble adopting him out because he's a black cat. And yeah, anytime on TV Sammy and Dean yell for each other they just kinda look *L* but hey at least they know their names *L*

I hope Donna will forgive me for butting in.

I suspect there are a lot more people around who don't like Wincest than you'd think. The non-Wincest fic at [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang outnumbers the Wincest by at least 2:1, including J2, J2 AU and Sam/Dean non-Wincest AU and gen.

It's not prudish or unusual to not like Wincest, but appears to be the 'in' thing. *g*

Completely understand. If you ever fancy giving Spander a try, Spander Files (http://spanderfiles.com/) is the place to go. I love it because of the powerful vampire/fragile human dynamic. Quite different to Spangel, where there are other forces at play.
