Pretty Maids All In A Row

lady_windermereI was going to do a Ep. one and two of Season 5 Angel, but the one that is really urging me to do a critique is "Pretty Maids All In A Row". I am going to give a few items that really irked me, and some I liked! I hope that is ok, it is behind a cut because not everyone will have read the book.
It does contain spoilers, and is not an advert saying how wonderful it is. Just to warn you before you click on the cut.
Ok the basic story is that it is Drusilla's 80th deathday and Spike wants to get her something special, and also upstage Angelus's presents in the past.
They end up travelling the world killing Slayers In Waiting, as the price for the pretty trinket.
What I didn't like, well, in my head Spike didn't dye his hair until about 1974, so I would have had him with his brown locks. Just a personal bias
The horror is well done, and some inventive ways of killing the slayers in waiting and others, but a bit more horrific romance would have been nice, and maybe a bit of humour.
Unsure whither Dru had been to Prague. She does want to go back, but seems at full strength, and as imaginative as ever.
Both Spike and Dru are well done, but the OC's are uninvolving. Ok our heros are a couple of soul-less vampires killing in very ornate ways. Maybe we are not supposed to care for the slayers and watchers, fair enough, but I was not interested in what was going on with them at all. And a chapter about their futures, really who cared.
Good balance between Drusilla's visions and the watchers visions. Will Drusilla is already insane, the watcher is being driven insane. I did like that bit. The dangers of second sight.
The final fight between Spike and the demon is ok. That is all, Drusilla seems to be used more for her thrall and charm. As I have said she seems reasonably strong most of the time, so you would think she would be more bloodthirsty. She does seem to leave a lot of that to her "Dark Knight".
The setting is good enough. Could maybe have done more with the whole second World War theme, but that might have distracted from the main theme.
All in all the best Spike and Drusilla story from them all (admittedly they are mostly comics) I would recommend, but only if you love Spike and Drusilla together.
