Character Books

I was on Amazon and tracked down the character books, Angel Chronicles 1,2, and 3, The Xander Years 1 & 2 and The Willow files. I thought that after I read the Angels ones I might give them as a gift to mandarin226 but what a disappointment. It is "all about Buffy"! I was looking for Angel's thoughts and motivations, instead it is all Buffy's thoughts.

The Xander Years does have Xanders thoughts, and so does the Willow ones, but Angel. No! Ok I know they are just rehashes of the episodes, but that would have been ok, for the insight into the characters, but I was really looking foreward to an insight into Angel. This is why we do Buffy Bashing. ME and the writers are just so far up Buffy's character. I have come to the conclusion that when they do any book that Buffy is in, it is not worth having. As far as the cross overs with Angel is concerned, they are sickening. Angel is over 240, not a love sick teenager. Please.


They do say they treat Buffy as a daughter, but is is more like a female Peter Pan. She never grows up, for a slayer she has the emotional maturity of a toddler. Ok one that kickes demon ass, but immaturely.

Ok I am not a fan of Buffy or SMG. I thought other characters were more interesting, and Willow and Cordelia more attractive. Maybe that explains it. I got really annoyed in season 7 that all Spike's scenes where with Buffy. Yes JM and SMG had some chemistry, but JM played against the other actors well also. I would have liked more scenes with them. The few we did have are amongst my favourites of the season.


Right I ranted on there long enough, going behind a cut now, as it took so long!

You know what? I think you're right! I liked Angel's character more when he was Buffy-free! I mean, come on! How can a vampire his age act like a puppy for a girl so immature? It's unseemly!

Now, I really don't dislike Buffy's character (I dislike SMG more!) but I agree with you when you say she was always the main focus of EVERY episode, even when other characters should have been the real center of attention. You remember 'Something Blue'? Willow was hurting for Oz and messed with magic, so you'll think SHE was the main char that episode but...BAM! One of her spells implied Buffy (and Spike luckily!) and all her trouble became a secondary thing!

So true! They made it hard to like her, and the books are worse. Every thing and everyone centers round Buffy. Ok so the central caracter, I understand that, but why develop the great cast they did, then trow them away for the overrated talents of Buffy, and her overrated looks.

How may times did she have to tell us she is pretty? Really no feme fatal!

I shall stop ranting. The books just annoyed me today!

Hehe... there was a discussion a while back (somewhere... can't remember now) about how many shows on t.v had lead characters that many viewers didn't like and they watched the shows purely for the supporting characters.
I am the same with Buffy - never liked her character, the superiority, the nastiness and the whining OMG the whining! Just kept wanting to slap her and really got annoyed at how every guy she got involved with turned into a whipped puppy.
Accepting that the show was called Buffy the Vampire Slayer and not Buffy and Friends, I understand that she will be the focus of episodes but I just wish the writers and producers had noticed the interest in the other characters a bit more.
As to the chemistry between JM and SMG... JM has chemistry with a rock...

I really blame the writers, but SMG seemed to have such a big head as well. The character of Buffy? For all the time they spent on her, she should have been developed more.

*Heh* I never watched Buffy on a regular basis until I was flipping channels one day, saw Spike, and wondered who he was. After that, I followed the show and fell in love with the other characters, but could never stomach the bint! Thank goodness for fanfic, is right. Revenge is sweet and Spike will always win if I have anything to say about it...

YES YES YES, Spike should always win! He should emerge head and shoulders above the others. Not only because he is Spike, but JM played him so well. And with those killer looks.

*Heh* I'm right beside you when it comes to James, girl. He brought Spike to life, not only with his looks, but with the attitude, the voice, everything about him screamed out for him to be Spike. But, then, too, he was so believable as sweet William. How can you explain that? I felt for both William AND Spike, even though they were so different in personalities. *That's* acting...

BTW... did you know James is nominated for a 'Spacey' in the "Best New TV Character" category for playing Brainiac on SMALLVILLE? I'm pimping him on all my flists.

I found a link this morning! Gotta vote for The Man!

I guess I am not a good Jossverse girl, I also voted for "Corpse Bride". I was on Myspace and one of my friends there posted some very upsetting pictures of cruelty to animals. Nothing else, no address to protest about it, just asked us to repost it. I am not! I would only do that if it gave information on how to take a stand against it. I am so frustrated now.

My problem with Buffy is that she was a total narcissist. While some narcissism could be excused, what with her being the chosen one and all, she took it to an extreme that grated on my nerves more and more with each season that passed.

Amen! I was amazed at how much I actually liked Angel on Angel because I never thought much of him when he was on Buffy.

The thing that really grates with me was they had a great ensemble cast. Wonderful actors and actresses who cared about thier work. Did they give them parts to really get their teeth into (bad pun!) No Almost every scene had SMG in it. I personally don't think she is that talented. It was just too much.
