Angel Comic: Old Friends

I got the last installment of the Angel Comic series "Old Friends". Behind a cut for those who have not read it, and don't want to read spoilers, are some thoughts on the series.
First off the artwork is very bland. I do prefer IDW to Dark Horse, but Angel and Gunn have lost all the character from their faces. I know that Angel's face became rounder and softer as DB go older, and filled out, but this is identikit art. As for Gunn, the only reason you know it is him, is because he is coloured. All of the character has been taken out of him. The graphics are dark, but we are talking about vampires here so I guess that has to be expected.
A lot of the covers are deceptive. If you really want to know what happened to Illyria, I would wait for the spotlight comic on her, as despite being on the covers, she is only in two #2 & #3.
As for the plot, it seemed only to be used so that they can bring in all the AI team, even tho' they are dead. Everyone makes an appearance, and the place is littered with dopplegangers. It has holes in it you could drive a HGV thro'. I did want to know what happened, but was not following it avidly. I really thought they had let the fans down with this one.
Gunn has lost an eye. What is it with them and eyes. Xander and now Gunn, getting to be a common theme, much like loseing a hand!
I did like the last scene. It was classic Angel, on the rooftops of LA, looking out over the city. An Aww moment.
Good to see the gang together, and I do hope they do better, but have to say they have room for a lot of improvement.
Well off to work on my prompts for
spring_with_xan. I am really looking forward to working on the prompt
fanbot gave me. Two Xanders a la "The Replacement". Gonna get Cool Xander instuction Dorky Xander on some of the finer points of LUV.
