Drabble Site
Apr. 5th, 2009 02:13 pmI almost feel there should be an award site just for drabbles. I got to thinking about this because I know my 100 drabble will not get anywhere in it's nomination. Even when the category is called drabble, it seems to be 100-500 words and the longer nominations win. Well unless you get someone like me as a judge who weighs in favour of a 100 word drabble.
I'm not sure if it is a misconception that drabbles are just churned out easily. They are not. The have to be concise, take constant editing to keep to the 100 word limit, and still have to have meaning. They still have to tell a story, and be in character. They can have just the impact, and should, of a longer fic. Yet at award sites (and by people who prefer longer fic), are often dismissed. They should cover as many genres, ships and rules of other types for fic, but have tight constraints on the word count. You have to make every word count. When you edit, you have to cut out any dead wood, any word that doesn't futher your story.
Which is why I suspect that drabbles should be judged away from longer fic. They have different rules.
