I got my Angel: After the Fall #9. This comic felt like a filler one, which I guess it could've been, just be bring us up to speed after the First Night interlude. So anyway, here is the review...
Gunn does a lot of talking, but apart from killing on of his own gang of vampires, does nothing.
Angel saves the day, with a Bippity, Boppity and Boo....which kind of sums up the fight, that untimately was not. I guess it brings everyone together (except Gunn), but......
Spikes supposed "Harem" turn up in the "fighting clothes for women, much loved by males", we find out Spiders real name is Maria, and that Spike and her have had intimate relations, where her extra spider legs come out! And Brian wonders why we don't warm to her?
Lorne take over the role of leadership, and reveals that the loan shark guy had betrayed the other lords. What a surprise. Oh and we get another pointless comment about Angel having great hair (suppose that it a matter of taste.
Connor has a chat with his father, but when they got back to the Hyperion, refuses to move back in with them. Also seems that his girlfriend is Gwen, so of course he cannot touch, or be touched. Maybe instead of Uncle Spike they should've went for Sponnor, cos that would've gone down better.
Then of course we find out what is wrong with Illyria, she changes into Fred at inopportune times, and without control. Spike has been protecting her up to this point. Now she might be even more out of control (but I suspect that with Wesley around, he will end up, surprise, surprise, stablising her). Wes tried to contact Cordellia, but of course in Hell-a, only got some flaming leaves.
So the team are back together, the first battle is over, and it all felt kind of Blah!
The artwork I was not fond of, I found it very muddy. Of course that could be the colourist, but even so. The artist seems not to have quite captured Angel or Spike at present, unlike Franco. I did love the cover I got "B" with Illyria, Fred, Angel and Wesley, but overall I found the artwork a disappointment in this issue.
Yes feeling this comic was just a filler, and should've been better to grab our attention and bring us back into the story after the First Night issues. Especially with changing the artist as well!

Date: 2008-06-23 06:43 pm (UTC)The whole Spider/Spike thing doesn't really upset me. To me it looks like they are more friends, who occasionally fuck and I'm still wondering, if there's a supernatural reason behind the girls' attraction to Spike.

Date: 2008-06-23 07:50 pm (UTC)I don't fell the Spike/Spider relationship works at present. Then it could be that I'm not invested in the original characters like I was with Asylum or Shadow Puppets, it is the original characters I want to know about, and feel these orginal characters take away from them, panels I mean. That might change with the Spike: After the Fall issues, when it is only Spike and Illyria and room for the original characters to develop!
Well there could be a supernatural reason behind the attraction. Or it could in some way be tied up to the relationship between Spike and Illyria I guess.
