I chose "it started off good, and has got worse" for the writing - but, to clarify, it was never all that good. It's just that it seems to keep declining in quality, so it started off much better than it is now...

I thought it was SLIGHTLY better when Joss had more involvement, but never thought it was that great! It got so bad I stopped buying...then there were a few factors in that!

I didn't answer some of the questions - and my answers to others probably aren't worth much. I get the comics, I read them, but I'm not a comic person, so I don't have strong opinions on the art or writing because I don't know what is considered "good" in the genre. I find it difficult to follow sometimes (both the storyline and the panels). I'm still buying them, and probably will continue to do so, but really just so I know what's happening in the new "season". Not because I really enjoy them very often. (Although I loved Dracula when he stood up and reminded them of who he used to be. LOL "The vampire is the least of your worries...")

I started buying comics again when IDW started giving Spike some time and his own. So a little out in modern comic books myself. They just don't seem like they did in the show. Yes there should be some character developement, but they have just popped up, acting out of character for no good reason. Which I think is bad writing!

Jentry just makes them look too young for my tastes, but art is subjective!

It is subjective. My issue with it has been that it seems to change from issue to issue. Just when I've figured out who everybody is, it seems like they make some changes and all of a sudden I can't tell Buffy from any other blonde girl. Thank god for Xander's eye patch! LOL Sam thing, to some extent with Angel and Spike's comics. I can tell who Spike is, but the people around him...not so much.

Yes, the Buffy covers were good, but panels bad!

Of course Urro did the two previous Spike!Centric comics with Lynch, so had quite a bit of pratice with Spike!

I didn't answer the last one. I can see myself buying *some* issues but not all of them. I've gotten to the *meh* point.

I have to admit, I will not buy another Dark Horse Title myself. The only ones I really liked were the previous Joss ones, Fray, Tales of the Slayers and Tales of the Vampires. I just don't think this contiuation of the Buffy saga works!

Well, I feel like I should buy the Giles/Faith issue coming up, since I took so much enjoyment annoying someone on Whedonesque about it last week.

AH! Giles/Faith might make me want to buy the comic.....if the artwork for then in the panels was better! *considers*

They've gotten better, though that's partly because I've given up on expecting them to follow the TV series and just take them for what they are.

And at least when Allie interacts with fans, he does so from up in his office, so to speak; everybody, including himself, knows what his position is and he doesn't try to be too chummy. Whereas Lynch's tendency to fish for compliments and then get snippy when he doesn't get it annoys me a bit. (I liked Jeanty's recent comment, though: "When I first got the gig I couldn't understand why they wanted me." Truth will out.)

I'm not keen on any of them posting on boards or forums myself. That includes Lynch, who would comment when I made entries at [livejournal.com profile] angel6_atf. I was not posting there for anyone involved in the comic to read, I was under the impression I was talking to other fans.

It is also the reason I don't got to Whedonesque much either.

Don't think I would buy the comic again now. I was also sorely disappointed in After the Fall. Didn't like Lynch's characterisation of Angel, which was a major drawback!

Oh well, maybe these higher profile comics are not for me. I usually don't like movies that get hyped up either. I'm usually disappointed!

I didn't answer the second question because none of the answers quite fit me - I think the writing has been uneven, with some of the single issues or arcs very good, but the overall story seeming to lack direction until recently. I've decided that I'll wait till it's over, and then if it seems worth it, I'll buy the graphic novel collections.

Yes, there have been some quite good ones, but overall I feel it is quite poor myself!

From the others Joss had done Fray, Tales of the Slayers and Tales of the Vampires, I think it might've benifited from a whole new cast, rather than trying to use the original Buffy characters. We mostly have such strong opinions of them already. Not quite sure it is working in the comic!

Sorry to hear that ATF wasn't your cup of tea. As for BTVS well I never brought it but I have read it through varies means (no I haven't downloaded it and can't be bothered to.)

Ever since the previews for it I got bad vibes and it really doesn't connect well with the show IMHO. Not the things that loved about it anyway.

No I kind of got unhappy with AfF after a bit. Still bought it, and going to read it in the end, but just as it comes out!

I think you made the right decision with Season Eight. I stopped buying it.

Here via [livejournal.com profile] sueworld2003.

I have to point out two things, the answer to question one is "I had no intention of buying it" because is very expensive to ship them to my country or my local comics store don't have them and in order to get them for me they would charge ridiculous amounts of money. Otherwise I would've given them a chance.

The last question, my answer was "Nothing would make me buy the comics" because is the closest to the situation I'm in. I would give them a chance of I would like the characters and the plot and they were affordable in my little corner of the world.

I hope I made sense.

Welcome!

I totally understand. Where I live in the UK, it was cheaper for me to get them posted from England, and go to the comic shop and buy it!

I've stopped now, with not really enjoying the comics and feeling that I didn't want to give Dark Horse any money!

I'm reading (with gritted teeth) mostly because I write lots of my stories by weaving with canon and want to at least know what Joss and Co. are considering canon in the comics. So far I haven't found inspiration for anything other than ignoring the entire mess but you never know.

I started with it, but between not being happy with the comic, not being inspired apart from a couple of drabbles, and Scott Allie's comments, I decided not to give Dark Horse any more of my money!

Some of my answers were more "none of the above." I don't think it's a good continuation of the franchise, but, just like I bought most of the old run of crappy Buffy comics, I'd still buy them for the $4/month "LOL this is so bad" experience.

I've liked some bits from some of the issuesj, and I think I might know where they're going with some of the seemingly crappy things, so I'm letting a lot of things slide until I can see if I'm right. I just hope things start to make some sense before too long. The pace of comic books just doesn't allow the sort of plotting that the series had, because instead of keeping us in suspense for a few weeks, it becomes YEARS, and by then even Joss has probably forgotten where he was headed.

I gave up on it myself, after a while. I was not sufficiently interested in where it was going, or any aspect of the comic. In the end that I didn't want to give Dark Horse any more money was a major factor.

About the writing never having been good. Not entirly true, there are some good episodes, but most of it was mediocre and there is no overall improvement.

About the art jeanty is bad, the guest artists are ok and jo chen is a goddess.

I think comics are a good way to continue in general if you make them a little bit better like say after the fall.

Yes, I think one or two of the comics have been good, but that will happen in such a long series.

The covers have been excellent, but the panels *sigh*

Well I did stick with AtF, but not season eight!

Honestly, it wasn't that good in the first place and it seems to be getting worse. I did buy "Wolves At the Gate" for the one sided Xacula but that's it so far. However, I do plan to eventually buy the ones by Brian K. Vaughn. His Faith and Giles stories seem much more interesting.

I have to agree, pretty much how I felt when I decided to stop them. I would like to read the Faith/Giles story, if the art was better at deplicting the two of them. I guess, depending on who does the covers, it might be worth it!
